Bleacher Ticket Stub Dating Guide |
First Step: Check the Header &
Rain Check Logo |
Step
1 - The
first step in dating your ticket stub is to check the stub
Header and Rain Check Logo.
Throughout the years the Yankees changed the header
text, and "Rain Check" logo design at the top of the stub. This
will narrow down the years to a specific era. Also take note of
the Game No.'s. The Game numbers were circled from 1923 through 1925, and since then, numbers were printed in different colors
that can help narrow it down to a specific year. Specific
headers, game number boxes, and Rain Check logo designs can be
used to differentiate the year. Below are sample of the
different headers, Rain Check logos, and Game No. boxes. Header
text includes: "Base Ball Club" from 1923-1929, Condensed to one
word "Baseball" in 1930. "New York Yankees INC" 1948-1953 "INC"
is dropped in 1954. The Word
"Admission" is added below ""Bleacher" in 1928. |

Step Two: Check Sales Tax & Total Price |
|
Step
2 - The second step in dating
your ticket stub is to check the sales tax and total
price.
The face value or total price of
the ticket stub will narrow the years down further to the era the
Bleacher tickets were sold. The Sales tax is added to
the estimated price listed on the ticket. No taxes were charged from
1927-1932. The Estimated Price shown above the tax line
is adjusted, to total the face value set for that year.
The exact wording of the tax line and amount of tax
taken, can narrow down the year to a specific era.
Examples of the wording used in the tax line
include: Tax paid, Fed Tax, City Tax,
St & City Tax, State & City Tax. (City Sales Tax did
not appear on tickets until 1955) (State Tax did not
appear on tickets until 1966)

Step Three: Check The Series
Letter |
Step
3 - The
third step in dating
your ticket stub is to check the series letter.
Once you have
narrowed down the years your ticket is from based on the Price
information, the series letter could be used to differentiate
the years that have the same header & price information. The series
letter is located above the serial number, and below the game
number from 1923-1939. From 1940-1943 the series letter is
located below the Serial number. Because of a price change and
the addition of the Yankees logo (in '46) the years 1944-1946 do
not have a series letter. The series letter is directly above
the serial number, but below the line that separates the Game
number, from 1947-1951. The series letter is located directly
below the game number from 1952-1968. Finally from 1969-1973 the
series letter is place before the serial number. |

Step Four: Check the Back |
Step
4 - The
fourth step in dating
your ticket stub is to check the back of the Stub.
In most cases Steps 1 - 3 should be enough to identify
the year of your ticket stub. Checking the legal text, printing
company credit line and the Canada dry ad on 1923 & 1924 stubs
(1923 also has a blank back) will help confirm the year your
ticket is attributed to. This step will also help in
differentiating years such as 1955 & 1958 that have the same
pricing & series letter but have different backs. Some backs
with the same legal information might have a different color
ticket stock, depending on the year it was printed. |

Step Five: Check the Printing
Company Credit Line |
Step
5 - The
fifth step in dating
your ticket stub is to check the Printing Company Credit
Line.
The Printing company used and the location of the
credit line can help confirm and identify the year the ticket is
attributed to. Below are sample of printing company credit lines
and the years they are attributed to.

Step Five: The Yankee Logo |
Step
5 - The
sixth step in dating
your ticket stub is to check the Yankees Logo watermark.
The Yankee logo color, style, size, or lack of one,
could help narrow down the age of the ticket stub. The Yankees
logo was first used in 1946 but it was unique to that year, as
it was refined the following year, in 1947. All tickets printed
before 1946 do not have the Yankee logo watermark. From 1947 to
the present day the design of the Yankees logo remains the same
but there are some years the logo was printed in blue, and the
size of the logo is smaller. The Sample of the blue logo below
is commonly found in red, on that rain check design. |

1923 - 1929 Bleacher Admission Rain Check Ticket Stub Dating
Guide |
Tickets printed 1923 to 1925 have the
game No.'s circled, "Important Notice" (disclaimer) was added to
the back in 1925. In 1926 the circle was removed. In 1927
because of the Revenue act of 1926 the admission tax is removed.
It is suspected that there might have been series "D" tickets
printed sometime during the 1926 season with the tax removed,
but it has yet to be confirmed. In 1928 it is suspected that the
season started with the series letter "F" for tickets printed
for games 1-31 (not yet confirmed), and was changed to the
series letter "G" for games 32-77, in order to change the legal
information, when the admission tax was removed from the $1.00
Stadium tickets. The word "Admission" is added below the word
"Bleacher" in 1927, and would remain this way until 1933 when it
was removed in favor of the tax line. |

1930 - 1939 Bleacher Admission Rain Check Ticket Stub Dating
Guide |
The price of the Bleacher Admission
tickets remains at .50 in 1930 but because of the tax revenue
act of 1928 no taxes were charged from mid 1927-1932. In 1930
the words Base Ball, as it appeared on tickets in 1929 and
before is condensed into one word "Baseball" The .10 cents "Paid
Tax" line returns in 1933 and is added to the estimated price of
.50, for a total price of .55. |

Bleacher Admission Rain Check Ticket Stub Dating

In 1952 the term "Fed Tax" replaces
"Tax Paid" in the Sales Tax Line. This is used until 1955 when
the Sales Tax Line reads "Fed Tax City Tax". *In 1954 the Fed
Tax is lowered from .21 for games 1-20, to .11 cents for games
21-77. Tickets 1-20 have the adjustment stamped on the back.
Both the 1955 & 1958 stubs have the same price info & Series
