NOTES:

Launched in 1908, Baseball Magazine, was the leading publication of it's time for information on the game of baseball. By the middle of the 20th century, magazines such as; The sporting News, Sport, and Sports Illustrated started grabbing the market share. With the popularity of the magazine in decline, only eight issues were published in 1953; four each in '54, & 55, five in '56, and two final issues in 1957. After an attempt to bring back the publication in 1964 & 1965, the last issue was printed in April 1965.

In 1912 The Baseball Magazine Co. published the first issue of Who's Who in Baseball. The cover featured an illustration of Ty Cobb. Starting in 1916 Who's Who in Baseball was published annually by Baseball Magazine until 1952 when Harris Publications took over. The back cover of the June 1939 issue of Baseball Magazine, features an ad for Who's Who In Baseball., with the cover picturing Jimmie Foxx.

The June 1939 Issue of Baseball Magazine covers the baseball centennial. It pictures "Abner Doubleday, Founder of our National game" on the cover. On the inside, six full pages of revealing photographs Plus... Centennial addresses by the Presidents of the National and American Leagues, Ford Frick and William Harridge; the National Baseball Hall of Fame and and the 20 members enshrined as of 1939, Cincinnati Red Stockings, baseball's first professional team, baseball from 1839-1939, baseball's first world tour, Casey at the Bat (reprinted from the July, 1908 issue of Baseball Magazine), and more.

There's an interesting article on baseball in the year 2039. "What will baseball be like 100 years from now? That's really one for Jules Vern to answer..." From a noble experiment on a patch of open meadow, to concrete stadiums holding 80,000, and player receiving salaries that must distinctly be classified as "Big Business." (And, this being the view of salaries in 1939.) ...The Yanks move into the World Series of 2039 in Shanghai which was admitted into the National League of Nations about 1978...
