The 1957 Baseball Handbook was compiled, edited, and published by International News Service, a U.S.-based news agency founded by newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst in 1909. The company later merged with United Press International in 1958, who then published the handbook until 1969, when Wide World Inc. took over the publishing

Contents of the Baseball Handbook for 1957 includes; Basic baseball strategy and plays; Baseball Quiz; playing schedules of major and minor League baseball; seating arrangement of major league stadiums; World Series highlights by Phil Rizzuto; Don Larsen's Perfect Game by Bob Considine; '57 outlook; facts; figures; photos and more.

The handbook was made available to use as an advertising premium. The space at the bottom was reserved for a company to add a four line "Compliments of" advertisement. Newspapers, banks, oil companies, were common clients. The Junior Sales Club Of America, Boys' Life Magazine Mickey Mantle advertisement used the 1957 Baseball Hand Book as a free premium when you enrolled as a member.

Inside the front cover features: "1956 Major League Leaders" National League - Duke Snider HR's 43, Hank Aaron Batting 328, Don Newcome Pitching 27-7 M.V.P., Stan Musial RBI's  109.  American League; Mickey Mantle Batting 353, RBI's 130, HR's 53, M.V.P. and Whitey Ford Pitching 19-6. Inside the back cover: "Ten Outstanding Rookies Of 1956" National League - F. Robinson, D. Blasingame, T. Phillips, J. Brandt, and L. Walls. American League - L. Aparicio, L. Skizas, T. Francona, R. Colavito, and P. Foytack.

The back was also made available to advertisers. Schedules for any team in organized baseball could be added at the top white area, with the advertisers information below. Or, the advertiser could use the entire back cover as they wish.
